The Gould Standard Truck (popularly known as the 'Bettendorf Truck') incorporated the sideframe and journal box in a single casting. This development represented the ultimate in efficient use of material and ease of fabrication, resulting in its wide popularity thoughout the standard era of railroading. Our kit follows prototype practice using a half-bearing riding on a hardened and precision ground axle. This truck was produced with both smooth-back and rib-back wheelsets over the years. We also offer both types of wheelsets with this kit, please specify your preference with your order. This kit was originally designed by Nelson Gray to utilized a spring plank like that used on the Arch Bar and Andrews trucks (shown in photo). We have redesigned the kit and retooled our equipment to eliminate the spring plank and more closel follow prototype practice.

We regret that we do not currently offer brake gear for 5" gauge trucks.
